Nintendo's latest mobile game staring your photos

Lights, Camera, Micro Games

Nintendo is no stranger to the world of bite sized, zany minigames known as micro games; the long standing WarioWare series has been serving up gauntlets of delightfully ridiculous split-second challenges since the 2003 Game Boy Advance original. Likewise, they've dabbled in the incorporation of camera tech in such experiences as the 3DS pre-installed AR game "Face Raiders". These two concepts have intermingled before in the the 2008 DSiWare title WarioWare Snapped! For their latest offering on Android and iOS devices, Nintendo's taking it a step further: this game forgoes Wario completely and stars, YOU! Yes, with your photos, you and your loved ones become the stars of Nintendo's new mobile title "Pictonico!"

Photo Finish

Within the free demo, there are three of the bite sized minigames to try out as players get a grasp on the game. Should they decide to play "Pictonico!" in its entirety from there, it will require the purchase of two separate volumes containing the other eighty minigames for a little over $7 and $5 respectively. However, as Cheyenne MacDonald from engadget.com will tell you, "You're informed upon setup that your photos are not sent to Nintendo or shared in any way, which is somewhat reassuring, since you really need to use photos that include faces for it to work." (Cheyenne MacDonald, May 31, 2026) This quote serves to put minds at ease as it shows that your facial data will not be harvested during your romp through this delightful little mobile title. The game's system will even use stock photos if it can't find any in your gallery.

Once the packs are purchased, you unlock the game's stages and score attack mode. These stages task players with navigating sets of minigames and clearing ten of them before they can move on. Score attack mode takes on three forms for additional challenges. Firstly there's "Normal", in which the difficulty of the minigames ramps up the further you succeed. Next up is the self explained mode dubbed "High-Speed" , and finally "Danger Zone" that will end your run at the very first minigame you fail. From the words of Dashiell Wood on msn, "The wacky tone and aesthetic are certainly reminiscent of WarioWare titles, and, having played it for a little bit before writing this, it very much takes me back to memories messing around with the similarly camera-focused WarioWare: Snapped! on the Nintendo DSi." (Dashiell Wood, May 2026) This snippet really reinforces just how much of that familiar microgame spirit carries through Nintendo's quirky new title. From plucking cartoonishly long nose hairs, to plucking the petals off a flower bearing your face, to stretching out your mouth to chow down on items coming down a line, the frantic fun of "Pictonico!" fires on all cylinders and never lets up. The title is currently available for download across all iOS and Android phones.
